LOUISVILLE TEAM TO PROVIDE UPDATE ON NATION'S SECOND HAND TRANSPLANT

Transplant Procedure Performed Feb. 16-17 at Jewish Hospital by Kleinert, Kutz and Associates and University of Louisville Surgeons

LOUISVILLE, KY ­ The surgical team that performed the nation's second hand transplant over the weekend will provide an update on the condition of recipient Jerry Fisher during a 10 a.m. (EST) news conference, Monday, Feb. 19. The conference is scheduled in the Jewish Hospital Rudd Heart and Lung Conference Center, 16th floor, 201 Abraham Flexner Way.

The news conference and new B-roll will be up-linked live via satellite and available for down link at coordinates: Ku-Band SBS 6, Transponder 6, Vertical Frequency 11847 MHZ. The signal will be available from 10-11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19.

Fisher, a 36-year-old father of three from Jackson, Mich., underwent the 13-hour transplant procedure Feb. 16 and 17. Surgeons are reporting that the procedure went extremely well and the patient is alert and recovering at Jewish Hospital. The 18-member transplant team included surgeons from Kleinert, Kutz and Associates Hand Care Center, PLLC, the University of Louisville and Jewish Hospital as well as a five-member team from Anesthesiology Associates. Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates, an organ procurement organization, coordinated the donation of the hands for both recipients.
