U.S. HAND TRANSPLANT PATIENT
CELEBRATES ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

(Louisville, Kentucky) January 25 marks the one-year anniversary of the nation's first hand transplant performed at Jewish Hospital. Surgeons from Kleinert, Kutz and Associates Hand Care Center, PLLC and University of Louisville performed the 15-hour pioneering surgical procedure January 25, 1999. To mark this historical event, a celebration is scheduled Tuesday, January 25 from 10:30 a.m. to noon (EST) at the Jewish Hospital Rudd Heart and Lung Center, Conference Center, located at 201 Abraham Flexner Way.

Matt Scott, the nation's first hand transplant recipient, and his wife Dawn will join members of the hand transplant team to celebrate the one-year mark. Team members will include doctors, researchers, nurses, therapists, immunologists and others involved in the planning, research, surgery, and care of the patient. Scott and physicians will be available for informal questions from the media.

The hand transplant program was developed by a partnership of physicians and researchers at Jewish Hospital, the University of Louisville, and Kleinert, Kutz and Associates Hand Care Center, PLLC.
