Joseph F. Buell, M.D.
Director of Transplantation, Jewish Hospital Professor of Surgery, Division of Transplant Surgery University of Louisville School of Medicine Dr. Buell graduated from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, in Rochester, New York and received his postgraduate training at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore, Maryland in general surgery. He served a Surgical Oncology Fellowship with the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland followed by a Hepatobiliary, Multi-Organ Transplantation Fellowship with the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, in Chicago, Illinois. Before coming to Jewish Hospital in January 2007, Dr. Buell was the Assistant Professor of Surgery, Division of Transplant Surgery Director at the Israel Penn International Transplant Tumor Registry at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is currently the Director of Transplantation at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, and a Professor of Surgery at the University of Louisville. Dr. Buell is a member of many medical professional societies, including the American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the American Society of Transplantation. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the NATCO Scientific Recognition for Efforts in Organ Donation in 2001 and Young Investigator Award from the International Liver Transplantation Society in 2001. |
