RE: Appointment of Transitional CEO
I wanted to share with you that the board committee appointed to select a firm for transitional leadership has engaged Wellspring Partners. Specifically, Wellspring Partners has been retained to provide a transitional CEO, accelerate the implementation of our 2009 operating plans and identify additional opportunities for system integration and consolidation.
Wellspring was selected primarily due to the company’s proven expertise in leading complex healthcare organizations through senior leadership transitions. We were also impressed with their collaborative approach to working with clients and to providing a renewed focus on performance improvement, quality and fiscal responsibility.
Wellspring presented two candidates for consideration as transitional CEO and the committee selected Janice James to lead the organization during the next several months. She has more than 30 years of proven healthcare experience in both the provider and payer arenas. In addition to serving as CEO in several locations, Janice has also served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer with several organizations. Wellspring will also provide additional resources to JHSMH during their engagement. Information on those specific teams will be shared over the coming days.
Janice will arrive later this week and will begin working with Bob Shircliff to transition his responsibilities in a seamless manner. The members of the Corporate Team, Debbie Molnar, Ron Farr, Lynn Simon, Joanne Berryman and David Laird, will now report directly to Janice. In addition, Ed Farmer, Alice Bridges, Tim Shaughnessy and John Johnson will also continue their reporting relationship to Janice.
The board committee will begin the search for a permanent President and CEO later this fall. The committee is committed to taking a thoughtful, reasoned approach to selecting the next leader for JHSMH. A final decision is not expected before the first quarter of 2010.
