NAFA Names Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare Clean Air Award Recipient for 2006
For Immediate Release:
9/22/2006
(Louisville, KY) -- The National Air Filtration Association (NAFA) has announced 21 recipients of the Clean Air Awards for 2006. Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare (JHSMH) was the only Kentucky recipient. The Clean Air Award is presented each year to building owners and managers that take steps to significantly improve the quality of their indoor air by increasing the level of air filter efficiency and improving the protocol involving indoor air quality components of their HVAC system in 10 categories. Recipients must accumulate a total of at least 52 combined points in the categories.
"We are proud of our partnership Koch Filter Corporation who helped to provide leadership to the project which enabled us to receive this award,” said Stephen French, vice president of Facilities Development & Engineer Services at JHSMH. “We want to assure our patients that our air quality is excellent during the construction and renovation stages of the new Frazier Rehab and Neuroscience Center facility, taking it from five floors to 15.”
“During a recent renovation project involving 11 floors of the Frazier Rehab and Neuroscience Center, we installed MERV 7 prefilters and molecular phase filters to prevent cross-contamination and odor entrainment from the renovation area to the rest of the main hospital,” said Mark Shaughnessy, HVAC Systems Mechanic with JHSMH. “The final filters were then upgraded to MERV 11 pleats installed downstream of the coils and upstream of the 99.97% HEPA filters.”
Candidates are nominated by both NAFA members and members of the facility management community for the award, and must submit detailed and specific steps taken towards cleaning the indoor environment. A NAFA Certified Air Filter Specialist qualifies the submissions. Awards are judged by the NAFA Clean Air Award Committee and each recipient receives a custom designed trophy and recognition for their efforts.
Awards were presented at the NAFA Annual Convention in Boston, MA, September 20-22, 2006.
An award presentation to JHSMH will take place on Friday, Oct. 27 at 4:30 p.m. at the Rudd Heart & Lung Conference Center, 201 Abraham Flexner Way.
