JUNE 29 DEADLINE NEARS FOR SECOND ANNUAL SOUTH LOUISVILLE ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS NOMINATIONS

Louisville, Ky. (June 12, 2007) -- Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital today encouraged business, civic and community leaders and residents of South Louisville to finalize and send in their nominations for the South Louisville Achievement Awards – the SoLo Awards - recognizing outstanding contributions to South Louisville. 
 
Chaired by Louisville Regional Airport Authority Executive Director Charles T. "Skip" Miller, SoLo Awards are given in multiple categories, including a SoLo Junior Citizen Award that comes with a $1,500 scholarship for post-secondary education.  Other categories are individual, business, not-for-profit/government organization, educational organization and recreation/sports organization.  The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2007.
 
The second annual SoLo Achievement Awards luncheon honoring the Award recipients will be held Sept. 18, 2007, in the Triple Crown room at Churchill Downs.  Awardees must be present, and will receive a custom, etched-glass plate depicting the SoLo Awards logo, which is a stylized representation of the Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital Sky Chapel arches.

To be eligible, individuals, businesses, organizations or projects must have made a substantial contribution to the economic, educational, environmental or physical health and beauty of one or more communities in South Louisville.  The awardee also must be located within the boundaries of the South End, which extend west from Preston Highway to the Ohio River, and south from Eastern Parkway to the Jefferson County line.  Candidates for the SoLo Junior Citizen Award must be a junior or senior in high school.
