Jewish Hospital and St. Mary’s HealthCare Collects Blankets For Homeless Shelters

Louisville, KY (11/5/07) -- The Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare (JHSMH) organization is working to keep the less fortunate warm this winter by supporting the Blanket Louisville program, which began five years ago by the Fedher family.

The Fedher family of Louisville began the Blanket Louisville program out of a desire to help the homeless and less fortunate. According to Kathy Fedher, “Our ultimate mission in collecting these blankets is to not only warm bodies, but also warm hearts.”

Over the past five years, they have collected over 5,000 new and gently used blankets, which have been donated to various homeless shelters in Louisville in cooperation with the Coalition for the Homeless.

The blankets will be delivered to various local shelters and homeless organizations through the Coalition for the Homeless. Participation by area schools, churches and community organizations, as well as JHSMH, has continued to help the program to grow over the years.

“We are honored to support the Blanket Louisville program to help them meet their goal each year,” said JHSMH CEO Bob Shircliff. “With so many facilities throughout the metro Louisville area, we are providing drop off points in virtually every area of town.”

This year’s goal for “Blanket Louisville” is to collect 3,000 blankets. Those wishing to donate a blanket should drop them off at one of the following Jewish Hospital and St. Mary’s HealthCare facilities by Friday, November 16:
